Microaggressions in “Safe” Spaces

It should be expected and obvious that healing/helping spaces are safe, and that practitioners are aware of intersectionality- however, that is often NOT the reality.

About the speaker

Sheila Ciminera, LCSW

Sheila Ciminera, LCSW is a social worker and owner of To Bear Witness Therapy. She began her career 20 years ago as a punk kid working in syringe exchange, and has been a proud harm reductionist ever since. She has had the privilege of being a case manager, program developer, individual and group therapist, clinical supervisor, acudetox specialist, professor, and trainer. Her primary focus is supporting helping professionals with compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. She also specializes in working with individuals dealing with trauma, addictions, and justice involvement- all through the lens of a trauma-informed care, anti-oppression, and anti-racist framework. She loves animals (particularly her two pitties), reading, art, photography, punk rock, memes, and retail therapy.
